Calvin Cheung
College principal
Calvin Zhang Jia Ming is the principal and founder of this academy, and also the host of the YouTube channel "Calvin Singing Classroom," which has over 250,000 subscribers and 40 million views. Over the years, he has been committed to promoting pop singing education in a scientific, systematic, and practical way, allowing students of different levels to clearly understand their vocal issues and find practical directions for improvement.
The core of Calvin's teaching is to transform professional vocal theories into methods that students can easily understand and implement. He has studied Estill Voice Training Level 1 & 2 and completed the New York Vocal Coaching Teachers’ Training Program, continuously researching vocal structure, vocal coordination, and applications in pop singing styles. He is currently a master's student in music literature at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, further deepening his professional background in music and education.
In teaching, Calvin excels at addressing common but difficult-to-solve problems for students, including forceful high notes, straining the neck while singing, unstable voice, insufficient breath support, unappealing timbre, singing like reading words, lack of emotion, stiff pronunciation, and lack of confidence in stage performance. His teaching not only focuses on "singing correctly" but also emphasizes whether students can sing naturally, pleasantly, with personal style, and stably perform on stage or in front of the camera.
Calvin has taught and guided numerous artists, singers, and actors, including some members of MIRROR, Coffee, Chen Zhanpeng, Liu Peiyue, Chen Ying, Luo Tianyu, He Yiting, You Jiaxin, Chen Xiaohua, He Guangpei, Anson Bean, and Li Ying. He has also collaborated with organizations such as Emperor Entertainment Group, Amusic, Universal Music, Warner Music, and TVB. These experiences enable his teaching to balance technical training, performance needs, and industry practical standards.
In addition to daily teaching, Calvin has served as a mentor for TVB's "Middle-Aged Good Voice 4," a guest singing teacher for ViuTV's "Star-Making or Not," and has been invited multiple times as a judge for singing competitions, a master class instructor for schools, and a lecturer for institutional singing workshops. His teaching style is clear, direct, and specific, able to point out students' vocal issues on the spot and provide constructive improvement methods, allowing students not just to "know the problem" but to understand how to practice the next steps.
Calvin believes that singing is not just talent, but a skill that can be understood, trained, and optimized. As long as the methods are correct, students can gradually improve vocal control, timbre quality, interpretive depth, and stage performance, building a voice that truly belongs to them.
